This test is only for glazed tiles and does not apply to unglazed porcelain tile or unglazed types of tile. All glazed floor tiles are classified under a porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) rating
PEI CLASS 0
No foot traffic - Wall use only
PEI CLASS 1
Very light traffic - Bare or stocking foot traffic
PEI CLASS 2
Light traffic - Slipper or soft-soled shoes: second level bathrooms & bedrooms
PEI CLASS 3
Light to moderate traffic - any residential area, with exception of some entrances and kitchens if traffic is heavy
PEI CLASS 4
Moderate to high traffic - Residential entry, kitchen, covered balcony, and countertops; light commercial
PEI CLASS 5
High traffic - Any residential, commercial
